Life as a New Employee – The Inside Scoop
What is an ex-financial industry employee and retired Registered Massage Therapist doing in the dental field? I asked myself as I headed to my first day as Legato Dental’s newest addition to the team. Dr. Bishop had been my dentist for a few years, and because of the way I had been treated as a patient, I knew this would be a great place to work. With that being said, I had a mountain of unknowns ahead of me—would I fit in? Would I like the job? Would I be able to keep up while learning a completely new field?
I have to tell you it wasn’t easy—the first few months were a blur! I had a new language to learn, new products to explain to patients and new questions coming at me from every angle. To top it off, I needed to be certified in scheduling—requiring me to study at home and pass a randomly timed exam. But at the heart of it all, I was supported by the most caring, compassionate coworkers who did their best to make sure I was succeeding.
In the middle of the whirlwind, I saw how the staff built strong relationships with each other, and especially, the patients. I have never worked anywhere with so much laughter and so little drama! One of the things that still stands out to me is how Dr. Bishop spends his time studying how to become better—at everything! He once spent an hour long meeting on discovering the best way to tell each individual employee that he appreciates them. Another thing that impresses me is how very skilled both he and the staff are at giving the best possible care to our patients. Working here is like being part of one big family—patients included.
I’m proud to say I made it through the early days! I know that our patients can have trust and confidence in our office’s crown and bridge, dental implant, dentures and esthetic dentistry simply because of the time I have spent getting to know Dr. Bishop and this amazing team. Here’s to a bright, smiley future for me and you!
