Jane Sheets’ Legato Dental Centre Experience

What dental treatment have you received at Legato Dental Centre?

Let me start by saying that I have always had a fear of dentists from the 1950’s to the 90’s. I came from a large family of 8 other siblings where dental visits were out of sheer necessity and not at all preventative. I started losing most of my teeth due to decay in the 60’s and was very self conscious of my mouth. I covered it when I talked and certainly did NOT laugh. When I started working, I only got the basics of dentistry done which included 2 partial ill fitting plates. In the 2000’s, I managed to get bridges, caps and veneers through my work plan.

I was first referred to Dr. Bishop at the Legato Centre when my partial upper denture broke my last anchor tooth holding up my plate. I was devastated even though I knew that THIS day would finally come. My referral appointment was made by my regular dentist over to Dr. Bishop and the costs and options were explained to me. I finally chose 6 titanium implants, a titanium bar and a full snap on upper denture due to my extensive bone loss. I would never have to worry about anchor teeth and breakage again.

How does the finished product feel?

The finished plate looks and feels like my own. I took in pictures of actresses whose smiles I admired, pointed to my favorite and said… make me look like her. Lol. I get compliments all the time… that I have beautiful teeth and a pretty smile. I no longer cover my mouth when talking and yes, even laughing.

What were some positive things you noticed about your experience?

The positive things I feel because of this life changing experience is that I no longer have to worry about what I eat. I feel confident that nothing will break at the most inopportune time. Since all the moulds are held at the Centre, I don’t have to re-invent the wheel in 10-20 years.

What would you say to someone who was considering having similar treatment?

I would say DO IT! as I have said to many people who eventually  became patients of Dr. Bishop as well. The staff at Legato Centre are friendly, professional and they all have a pretty good sense of humor! They even treat you to a coffee and cookies when you’re finished your appointment.

Do you feel that things were explained sufficiently to you?

I had as many visits to the Centre as I needed to fully understand the costs and the time frames involved. They quelled my fears on the surgery aspect of the procedure as the remainder of my top teeth were extracted and a temporary plate was put in the same day. I learned about the aftercare involved and appt schedules so that my workplace understood and could plan for each appt.

If you could sum up your experience in a few sentences, what would you say?

It has been 3 years since I started on this wonderful journey and I mean journey… I have since retired and I NEVER thought that all of this was possible. It certainly has been a life changing experience!

Do you usually enjoy going to the dentist?

I love going to Dr. Bishop and to the staff at the Legato Centre. I feel valued and have always been treated with the utmost respect. It’s actually FUN to go to the dentist!! I’ve come a long way baby from the 1950’s where dentistry didn’t even involve freezing!! Brrr. Kudos!!
