Porcelain Veneers

Veneers at Legato Dental Centre
Your teeth do a lot for you every day. In addition to functional roles like biting, chewing, and speaking, your teeth also play an integral aesthetic role as well. Your teeth are a major contributor to the quality of your smile. Imperfections in your teeth, even tiny ones, can have a major impact on the appearance of your smile, your confidence, and the impressions you leave. At Legato Dental Centre, we can help to eliminate imperfections in your teeth, improving the quality of your smile, with porcelain veneers.

What are Veneers?

There are several different types of minor flaws that can have a significant impact on the quality of your smile. These flaws include:
•  Minor chips and cracks in the enamel of your teeth.
•  Small spaces between your teeth.
•  Slight overlapping.
•  Misshapen teeth.
•  Teeth that are smaller than the rest.
•  Discoloration.

Veneers are a cosmetic treatment designed to eliminate the appearance of these minor flaws and improve the quality of your smile. They are thin shells that are made to be bonded to the front surfaces of your affected teeth. Once bonded into place, the veneers cover over the flaws, transforming the appearance of your teeth to improve your smile and boost your confidence.

Why Porcelain Veneers?

Veneers are typically made from either composite resin or porcelain. While both types of veneers are effective, porcelain provides significantly more benefits. These benefits include:
•  A more natural appearance. While composite resin and porcelain are both tooth colored, porcelain provides a more realistic result. Not only can porcelain be stained to blend in with the color of the rest of your teeth, but it also reflects light like how enamel reflects light.
•  Greater strength. Porcelain is stronger than composite resin and has a longer lifespan. With proper care, porcelain veneers can last 15 years or more.
•  Stain-resistance. Composite resin is porous. As a result, it can collect stains. Unlike your natural teeth, however, composite resin cannot be whitened. Treating stains on your natural teeth would require that your veneers be changed to match the new color of your teeth. Porcelain veneers are stain-resistant.

How are Porcelain Veneers Placed?

The process for placing porcelain veneers requires two separate appointments. During your first appointment, we administer a local anesthetic and prepare the affected teeth. This process involves removing a thin layer of enamel from each of the teeth that will receive veneers to ensure that your cosmetic restorations will fit perfectly in with the rest of your surrounding teeth. After the teeth have been prepared, impressions of your mouth are taken. Typically, there is no need for temporary veneers, although they can be provided if there are aesthetic concerns.

Your impressions are sent to our dental lab. There, they are used to design and create your custom veneers. Your second appointment occurs after your veneers have been completed and sent back. We check your veneers to ensure a comfortable fit, a natural bite, and that they blend in with the rest of your teeth. If no adjustments are needed, the veneers are bonded into place.

With porcelain veneers, we can completely transform the appearance of your smile, which can then help to significantly boost your confidence.
